Today is the first day of another new year. A day of new promises, fresh energy and resolve to make it our most happening year ever.
We all have plans. I have one too. But this time, unlike a standard checklist, my plan is more of a formula.
I wish to share that formula with you through this quick digest.
If you are seeing this in your mailbox and wondering who this is, it’s the same old Kartik Dayanand but speaking from a new platform—Substack.
The unstoppable formula
The idea for my formula came about only last week. Thanks to a Telugu talk show called ‘Unstoppable with NBK’ on Aha OTT, hosted by the legendary actor Balakrishna.
He invites actors and other personalities related to the Telugu film industry on his talk show. He recently announced that Prabhas was going to be the next guest on his show.
The D-Day arrived. The episode went live. The app immediately crashed.
That’s when a doubt struck me.
The Aha app did not work either on mobile phones nor on smart TVs—leading to a barrage of tweets saying Prabhas literally broke the internet.
The answer to my question was obvious. It was as simple as a basic mathematical equation involving constants and variables. And we know the role of variables in such equations. They are the ones that make the difference to what is until then a static scenario.
In this case the app was the same with the same technical backend while the entry of Prabhas got with him a set of new fans/subscribers that the platform did not anticipate.
The app was the CONSTANT and Prabhas was the VARIABLE
The OTT platform quickly made some updates to their backend to cater to this new demand and then they were back in business, maybe with a much better understanding of their own potential.
That whole scenario kind of resonated with me at a very fundamental level.
That’s when my simple formula took shape:
We as humans are very much like that app. More or less constant in our routines and motivations. It’s the entry of that positive-variable that makes all the difference in our lives.
It could be a new skill we’ve learnt. A new friend we’ve made. A new daily routine. A new book. Something that is out of the box and unusual to our static existence—basically something that breaks us to better ourselves.
There could be some negative-variables that pull us back; so let’s be conscious of what kind of variables we are allowing to enter our lives. Too much time on Instagram, YouTube, binge watching OTT content, unhealthy diets, toxic relationships, and so on—let’s minimise the impact of those variables and focus on the good ones.
I plan to consciously bring in as many new positive-variables in my life as possible to make a difference to the old me. This digest, on this new platform, is one of those variables. And you my friend, reading this digest, are one too.
I wish to be unstoppable this year, and I wish the same for you too!
Have a fantastic 2023 ahead!!!
Cheers!!!
